EyeR at ARVO 2026: Presentations & Travel grant awards

With more than 11,000 attendees and five intense days of oral presentations, posters, discussions, networking, and inspiring exchanges, this year’s ARVO Annual Meeting 2026 in Denver once again proved to be a curiosity-driven journey through a true labyrinth of knowledge in ophthalmology.

This year, the Eye Image Analysis Group Rotterdam (EyeR) had the opportunity to share its latest research on retinal phenotype analysis in retinitis pigmentosa using Adaptive Optics (AO) imaging. Danilo Andrade De Jesus presented the AO-VISION project, exploring retinal degeneration from both cellular and topographic perspectives while investigating how these patterns relate to OCT changes. The presentation also highlighted the importance of community-wide efforts toward the standardization of AO interpretation, emphasizing that AO imaging contains much richer information than cone counting alone.

At the core of EyeR’s research interests, Adriana Neves presented a vendor-agnostic FAZ analysis approach in OCTA using deep learning, an important step towards biomarker transferability in clinical care. The potential applications of this work extend beyond retinal diseases to neurodegenerative and cardiovascular condition, as reinforced by many insightful presentations by other colleagues in Denver.

We are also proud to share that Adriana Neves received the Wood Balkema Memorial Travel Grant, while Danilo Andrade De Jesus was awarded the Kreissig Travel Grant.

The two researchers are thankful to both foundations and to Health~Holland for supporting EyeR’s work and making participation in ARVO’26 possible.
