Anne Akerboom participates in the Hoe?Zo! show

Anne Akerboom, PhD student in BIGR, is one of the PhD candidates in this year’s Hoe?Zo! Show. The Hoe?Zo! Show project is a science communication project for 9–11-year-old children teaching them basic scientific skills and fostering their natural curiosity. In a theater show, children can ask a team of four PhD candidates any question that they might have. The PhD candidates do not know in advance which questions the children will ask and need to produce an impromptu answer. Besides answering the questions, they also visualize the answers using a collection of props.

The program is accompanied by a four-lessons education module for the kids in which they learn how to find and judge information or how to present findings. The participating PhD students are prepared for the show via a training program that strengthens their outreach skills and helps them develop competences to present their scientific work in a non-scientific setting.
