Biography

Research
Diede Wijnbergen started her PhD in 2025, performing research in collaboration with radiology (BIGR) and plastic surgery. The focus of her research is on imaging-based analysis of brain and craniofacial morphology in children with craniosynostosis. Craniosynostosis a congenital condition characterized by premature fusion of one or multiple cranial sutures, leading to abnormal skull and brain development. Using advanced MRI analysis and 3D photogrammetry, the project aims to improve quantitative assessment of both brain morphology and head shape, and to better understand morphological variation and development across craniosynostosis subtypes.

Background
Diede obtained her master’s degree in Technical Medicine from the Technical University of Delft, Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2021. In her master thesis she focused on image registration for atlas-based analysis of brain regions in infants with craniosynostosis, through conventional and deep learning methods.
