Open Science NL has announced its largest funding round to date, awarding 45 projects that will strengthen open science infrastructure in the Netherlands. Among them are two projects led by BIGR group members focusing on FAIR imaging infrastructure for medical research.
In its largest funding round to date, Open Science NL has awarded funding to 45 projects that contribute to strengthening infrastructure for open science in the Netherlands. The selected projects support the development of platforms and services that make research data, software and publications more FAIR, reusable and interoperable, enabling open and collaborative research across disciplines.
🎉 BIGR-Connected Awarded Projects
1. A FAIR and Open Medical Imaging Annotation Platform
- Lead: Hakim Achterberg (Erasmus MC, BIGR)
This project aims to develop an open and FAIR-aligned medical imaging annotation platform to improve data standardization, interoperability and accessibility. The platform will integrate standardized annotation workflows, task management, templates and automated data handling, reducing administrative burden and inter-observer variability. Built on open-source software, it will support interoperability with national infrastructures such as Health-RI, enabling seamless data integration and reuse.
2. National Infrastructure for Ophthalmic Imaging
- Lead: Karin van Garderen (Erasmus MC)
This project focuses on establishing a national infrastructure for ophthalmic imaging data, supporting FAIR data practices and improved accessibility for eye-imaging research. Karin van Garderen previously worked closely with Stefan Klein within the BIGR group, and this project builds on that shared expertise in medical image analysis and research infrastructure development.
These awards highlight the continued impact of BIGR and its collaborators in advancing open, interoperable medical imaging infrastructure, contributing to national efforts to strengthen open science in the Netherlands.
Congratulations to Hakim Achterberg and Karin van Garderen on receiving Open Science NL funding! 🎉
