Biography

Alexander Wakker started his PhD in November 2022, working with the BIGR group and the Trauma department at Erasmus MC. Before that, he wrapped up his master’s in Technical Medicine with a joint degree between the Technical University of Delft, Leiden University, and Erasmus University Rotterdam.

During His PhD research he is working on creating smart tools that can automatically measure the shapes and sizes of bones in 3D models. These models are made from CT scans. By using AI, he’s aiming to give doctors super-accurate info about the pre- and post-operative condition of the bone. Basically, it’s like giving surgeons a really detailed map to guide them during surgeries.

Additionally, he holds a clinical position in the Trauma department at Erasmus MC. In this role, he specializes in the development of surgical guides for correction osteotomies of bone structures. Utilizing computational methods and 3D modeling, he creates patient-specific guides that facilitate precise surgical interventions, effectively translating his academic research into clinical applications.
