Biography

Dr. ir. Danilo Andrade De Jesus is the Co-leader of the Eye Image Analysis Group (EyeR), a joint collaboration between Erasmus MC and the Rotterdam Eye Hospital in The Netherlands. With a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and over several years of experience, Danilo specialized in image processing and AI applied to ophthalmology. His scientific contributions include new methods for the analysis of Adaptive Optics, OCT, and OCTA imaging applied to various diseases, including glaucoma. Danilo has actively participated in and contributed to multiple European projects, including a Marie Curie ITN action funded by the 7th EU framework program to foster research training in Vision Science. Before assuming his current position at Erasmus MC, Danilo worked as a postdoc in a multidisciplinary project at KU Leuven, Belgium, where he developed retinal biomarkers for glaucoma and hyperspectral imaging. His career also includes roles with scientific contributions at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Tampere University, and the University of Coimbra, highlighting his dedication to advancing ophthalmic image analysis and understanding diseases affecting the eye.
